The End of Summer Fairy

Take a look,
and you will see,
a little fairy,
in a tree.
Don't let your gaze,
last too long,
for in a blink,
she'll be gone.

Picture
Bats and pumpkins, and spooky old trees.  Things in the night, ready to tease.
They sit around fire, and chant their dark words.
Keeping them low, so not to be heard.
Be careful I say, when you go out at night.
The creatures await, to give you a fright!

Latest Review on the Series
Spooky Twisties I, II, and III by Terri Bertha

January 27, 2020 by Dave in Spooky Reads

“Ah to be young again.  No worries or responsibilities except for homework, practice, wondering if the cute classmate likes you, and the succubus that lives down the street.  Nights and weekends filled with sleepovers, trips to the carnival, playing hide and seek in the cemetery, and fighting off a sentient drone incursion created by your science fair projects.  Yes, a simpler time.

The Spooky Twisties series by Terri Bertha follows a group of ordinary young friends into extraordinary, spooky situations.  Each book has 13 tales that are fun and fearful.
While these stories cover most of your scary stuff like ghosts and the creepy house at the end of the road, Bertha adds a unique twist to each story.  The way she ties the stories together in each individual entry creates an overall world that a young reader can immerse themselves in. Bertha does a great job with this in the first volume and makes several callbacks to stories throughout the others.

Another thing that I found interesting about the Spooky Twisties series was how the author would incorporate simple life lessons into the scary stuff.  Lessons like helping one another, respecting different opinions, cooperation, and not being a complete shit.  It suggests that even if you are on the road to hell driving to a family vacation, you may still want to help someone in desperate need. So, if you are looking for a way to ease your children, niece, nephew, or the neighbors’ kids into the spooky stuff, you won’t be disappointed in starting them off with the Spooky Twisties series.  But if one of the kids starts acting a bit off, check the local graveyard, there may have been a twist.”

The Spooky Twisties Series - Available in Paperback and eBook

Spooky Twisties I, II, and III each offer 13 interconnected short stories for middle grade. These "scary", yet humorous tales with "twisted" endings, make for fun, entertaining reading around the campfire, under the bed covers or just when you're in the mood for a goosebumpy tale.
Follow the kids and their friends as they encounter some definitely creepy people and paranormal situations in their once normal hometown.
The hidden references in these brief tales foreshadow future encounters and/or connect back to events of previous stories, and the twists in the story endings make reading the tales even more fun for the reader.

A nice 5 Star Review on Spooky Twisties II recently received Dec 12, 2018

by MJ LaBeff
5.0 out of 5 stars Scary, fun reads no matter what your age!

Take a trip back in time to your childhood or pick up the perfect read for your kids or grandkids with the Spooky Twisties series. Her short, snappy, well-written fiction is for the young and young at heart.
What I've enjoyed about Spooky Twisties II are reliving some of my own preteen memories. Stuff like, your first crush, the first time you could go to a carnival with your friends sans parents, wishing for a magic set that actually worked, babysitting a "scary" kid (what if he were a vampire?), trading places with an older sibling if you had one (this story is hilarious), finding a way to ace all of your homework and tests with the help of some divine intervention, visiting a psychic like Madame Herlet to deal with a friend at school who manages to get you in trouble, and then there's the talking dog. I'm still hoping that one can come true.
All of the short tales feature the same group of kids and have elements of supernatural and paranormal forces that Terri brings to life in a realistic way. There are morals to some of the stories, and they're all good, scary, fun!

Book 1 Stories:

Changing Places: Will this be the last year the kids play their annual game of Ghosts in the Graveyard?
Ghosts in the Family: A baseball card collection to die for.
Creepy Guy: What more needs to be said?
Dan the Security Guard: Dan takes his role as security guard at the local store seriously – maybe a little too serious.
Today’s the Day: A mischievous prank in the graveyard goes awry.
The Secret Trickster:  A new ‘friend’ joins the kids for trick or treating.
Mrs. Miller: Amy uncovers an old woman’s secret.
The Ouija Board: Once opened, can a gateway be closed?
Truth or Dare: Can the truth set you free?
Virtual Oops: A video game becomes a little too real.
A Fisherman’s Tale: A ‘reel’ scary story.
Forever a Friend: A sleepover turns into a real nightmare.
The Demise of Mrs. Succubus: Multiple stories converge to a spine-shilling conclusion.

My story "Missing Elf on the Shelf" was included in a  X-mas anthology, "Shades of Santa #1: Tales from the  Bloody North Pole"  published by "Things in the Well" December 2017. Is something more happening with the shelf elves we don't realize? Available at Amazon.

The latest reviews on Spooky Twisties I and II from Team Golfwell

"... The author is very creative and knows the young adult mind. Each story had a surprise ending which makes the reader want to read the next story, but the next story is a new adventure in reading.
This intelligent author interconnects the stories to add to the spookiness and the stories were very well written with a creepy (but friendly and relaxing as you first get into each spooky story.
Clever, a bit humorous, and written for a young adult world, yet I as an adult love and admire the imagination and humor of the author."

I enjoyed reading “Spooky Twisties II” by Terri Bertha the author of the Spooky Twisties Series. Again, as a fairly intelligent adult I thought (as I did when I read Spooky Twisties I) I would guess the ending of these connected spooky short stories, but the author is extremely creative and easily catches the interest and wonder of a young adult (as well as old adults) and this book, just like the first in the series, is very hard to put down.
Each story has a humorous streak in it (the same as the first book) which makes each story an entertaining and amusing read.
I also think both Spooky Twisties I and II are great exercises for imaginative young minds and expands the creativity of the young reader after reading these unique stories. I especially like the magic Very entertaining!

New Reviews on Spooky Twisties I and II - May 3, 2018
Sharing Laura Thomas’ reviews on Spooky Twisties I and II from her site FUONLYKNEW –Laura’s Ramblins and Reviews (The Kids Korner #31)
Spooky Twisties I: … I'd recommend this to young readers and adults. Fans who enjoy tales similar to R. L. Stine's Goosebump books will get a kick out of these.
Spooky Twisties II: … I had such a blast with these stories. And I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. They were suspenseful with just the right amount of spooky for the younger reader… Creative. Spooky. Humorous. Unpredictable. Perfect ingredients for fun.
